In 1923 a group of Virginia farmers, frustrated by the scarcity of good quality seed, came together to create the Virginia Seed Service. Over the years they expanded into fertilizer, farm supplies and petroleum and in the early 1930s they changed the name of the cooperative to Southern States and branched out beyond Virginia.

Today they are one of the nation's largest farmer-owned cooperatives. Owned by more than 300,000 farmers, Southern States combines member resources to provide expertise, research and services that individual farmers couldn't obtain otherwise.

In this brief video, Jessica Lohman of Southern States spoke with us about the excitement of being at the Alltech National Horse Show and the pride of watching horses fed on Southern States feed perform well.
