Alltech was founded 30 years ago with $10,000 and one product: a yeast-based animal feed supplement called Yea-Sacc1026. In the last three decades we have expanded into enzymes and solid state fermentation. We have researched and developed natural animal nutrition products for many species, including: pigs, poultry, cattle, horses, aquaculture and pets.

We are a little busy right now, what with sponsoring the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games. But last week we still found some time to grow the business. On Thursday, September 25th we announced the purchase of a state-of-the-art algae production facility in Winchester, Kentucky.

Expanding into algae production offers a lot of opportunity for innovation in food, animal feed and biofuels. Dr. Lyons explains the potential of algae production this way. "We have worked in this area for several years and see it playing a major role in both human and animal health and nutrition as one of the world's more renewable food and energy sources."
